Free IRS 2012 Tax Calendars for Small Businesses & the Self-Employed

Good afternoon,

The IRS Tax Calendar for Small Businesses and Self-Employed (IRS Publication 1518, Catalog Number 12350Z) is a 12-month wall calendar. It is filled with useful information on general business taxes, IRS and Social Security Administration customer assistance, electronic filing and paying options, retirement plans, business publications and forms, and common tax filing dates. Each page highlights different tax issues and tips that may be relevant to small business owners with room on each month to add notes, state tax dates, or business appointments.

You can view the cover of the 2011 calendar by going to http://www.tax.gov/calendar

I have a supply of approximately 2,500 of the 2012 calendars that will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.  Please let me know if I can send some to you and your mailing address.

Montgomery Wins Governor's

Home Town Award for Settler's Cottage

The Village of Montgomery was one of 28 communities recognized for outstanding volunteer projects at a ceremony in Springfield on October 26th. The Settler's Cottage restoration project won top honors in the Division 4 (population 10,001-25,000) Historic Preservation category. Each winning community received a road sign and plaque commemorating their efforts.

Governor's Home Town Award recipients were chosen by a group of volunteer judges who reviewed and ranked applications based on community need, use of resources and results. "The volunteers we are recognizing today truly exemplify the best Illinois has to offer by going above and beyond to make their communities better places to live," Governor Quinn said on Wednesday. "By investing their time and talent, these individuals are not only supporting their neighbors, but also uplifting the entire state."

Volunteers on Montgomery's Historic Preservation Commission have been working since 2004 to preserve and restore Settler's Cottage, the oldest house in the Village, which had been slated for demolition. Commission members petitioned the Village Board to save the small home, built in 1840 and owned for many years by Daniel S. Gray, the founder of Montgomery. The Commission then spent the next five years seeking grants and donations to completely restore the structure and turn it into a local history museum.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Village was Jeanette Lee, Chair of the Historic Preservation Commission since its beginning in 2003. "The Historic Preservation Commission accomplished much in a short period of time," said Lee. "Without great teamwork from all of the past and present members of the Commission and our other dedicated volunteers, we would not have had such success. Everyone who has been part of this project can be very proud of what we've accomplished."

Montgomery Announces

Leaf Pick-Up Service

The Village of Montgomery Public Works Department will be offering leaf pick-up service beginning mid-October and running through mid-November.  Leaves must be neatly raked on the parkway along the curb by 7 am on Monday of each week.

Leaf piles should NOT be placed in the street as they can clog sewer drains, and cannot include grass clippings or sticks. Do not place leaves behind parked cars, mailboxes, or refuse containers, as they will interfere with the collection of leaves.  Leaves should not be placed in bags unless intended for collection by Allied Waste.  Please remember that leaf burning is prohibited by Village ordinance.

For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at 630-896-9241.

Help Us Help Those in Need This Holiday Season

With the holiday season just around the corner, Fox Valley United Way is once again partnering with local businesses, community groups, families and individuals who want to reach out a helping had to those who are having difficulties during these tough economic times.

While many of us are telling our children that there won't be a lot of gifts under the tree this year, many children in our community will not have any.  That is unless we do something to help.  The Fox Valley United Way wants to help those needy families who won't have the means to provide gifts for their children this year.

Unfortunately for these families, many other resources in the community have dried up.  Therefore, the Fox Valley United Way is asking businesses and their employees, community groups, families and individuals to consider making it a brighter holiday for area children.

Here's how you can make a difference:

- Adopt an individual family (Info: deborah.collins@uwfoxvalley.org)

- Make a montetery donation (Checks mailed to Fox Valley United Way, 44 East Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL  60505/ Cash donations can be dropped off at that same address/ Or contribute by credit card at www.uwfoxvalley.org).

- Purchase a gift card from a local grocery store to help provide a holiday meal for a family

- Purchase hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for the children so they don't have to worry about being cold during the winter months

- Run a children's toy drive!  Drop off unwrapped gifts at the Fox Valley United Way office.

Please note: all gifts should be unwrapped and donations of any size are appreciated.  Deadline to drop off donations at the Fox Valley United Way office is Friday, December 9th.
